Vigilante
From PhallaWiki
A Vigilante is a role given to a player, which holds the power of eliminating other players. While the limitations to this power vary depending on the game, the traditional Vigilante chooses one player to kill each Night. The Vigilante's Choice is sent to the Host.
Vigilantes are traditionally Village-aligned, and thus hold the objective of eliminating the Mafia players.
In a larger Phalla, it is not uncommon to have more than one Vigilante in-play at the same time. In most cases, a Vigilante cannot break through a Guard, and can be stopped by a Role Blocker.
A Vigilante kill is traditionally noted to be different from that of a Mafia kill in the Nightly Results, if the game contains cause of deaths in the results.
Types of Vigilantes
Vanilla Vigilante - The Traditional Vigilante. Chooses one player to kill each night.
"Trigger-Happy" Vigilante - Role is given the limitation that the player is unable to abstain from choosing a target. If no target is given from the player, the Host may choose a target for the Vigilante.
Paranoid Vigilante - Role is given the limitation that the player is unable to choose a target. Instead, the Vigilante will kill whoever targeted them, regardless of alignment. Whether or not this prevents the other actions from going through is determined by the Host.
Bomb - This role is not particularly considered a Vigilante, but is generally a Village-aligned role with the power to kill. Similar to the Paranoid Vigilante, the Bomb will kill whoever targeted them with a kill, causing both players to be eliminated. In the event the Bomb is voted out, the player who lasted voted for the Bomb will be killed. Variations can include the Bomb actively choosing a target to blow up with them.
Vengeful Vigilante - Role is given the limitation that the players power is not activated until a certain event happens, usually involving the death of another role. In some cases, however, the power is given to the player on the night they die to the vote.
Playing as a Vigilante
A common tactic as a vigilante is to reveal your role publically, and state who you killed in the period between vote close and the narration. If all goes to plan, this confirms your ability to kill people, allows a guard to save you from death, and (depending on how much information is revealed in the narrations) can prove that you aren't a member of the mafia. This plan can back-fire, however, if there is no guard, or if an ability-blocking role is present.
It's generally accepted that a vigilante should use their kill every night, even if no players appear suspicious.
(Aw gee, I don't know much about that! Somebody else can take a crack at this one, since this is up for interpretation. Maybe it could use its own article for different styles? -- Obbi 09:31, 22 May 2009 (UTC))
