Phalla

"Phalla" is the Penny-Arcade Forums'[1] version of the party game Mafia[2].

Games of Phalla are mechanically similar to Mafia, in that the player base (village) is often divided into two groups - an uninformed majority who only know that they are innocent, and an informed minority given knowledge of the identities of each of their fellow mafia members. Both the innocents and mafia have mutually exclusive victory conditions. The innocents must, utilising the tools at their disposal, eliminate all members of the mafia. The mafia must eliminate sufficient numbers of innocents that they equal or outnumber the surviving innocents.

A large number of variations, both thematically and mechanically, have been used over the history of Phalla.

History

The term Phalla was first used as the thematic name of the village in which a game of Mafia first took place on the Penny Arcade Forums. The first game was hosted by Tarronon and started 9/19/06. The term has subsequently evolved as the term used to describe all Mafia-style games on the Penny Arcade Forums.
