Bandwagon

Bandwagon is a term used to indicate consensus-style, pile-on voting. During the Vote, it often happens that one or two votes cast for the same player in quick succession will trigger a surge of votes for the lucky target. This can occur for several reasons. It may indicate uncertainty on the part of the Village, especially on the first turn when there is usually no rational justification whatsoever for a vote. It may, alternately, indicate a solid lead such as a Seer confirmed Mafia member. Bandwagons are notoriously difficult to stop once they begin to gather momentum.

Bandwagons get people killed by the vote.

They begin when someone either makes a good argument for a player and many people agree, or an influential person votes for a player. People who agree are said to "hop onto the bandwagon". This leads to the player being voted out. To be "bandwagoned" is to be a victim of the bandwagon.

The phrase originated from the common phrase "the bandwagon effect", invented by Conan Sherry, which describes the herd-like way that people conform to what others believe in, despite possibly lacking information.

This is often used by mafia members to avoid suspicion. However, most people who jump on the bandwagon do so because they don't have much else to go on.
